“For since the creation of the world His invisible attributes, His eternal power and divine nature, have been clearly seen, being understood through what has been made, so that they are without excuse.” Romans 1:20
“The Four-Fold WORD of God”
Dear Friends,
God is a Self-Revealing, or “Speaking” God.
The Bible is clear about the several ways God has revealed Himself, or “Spoken”, to us.
First, God’s INFINITE WORD (or ‘General Revelation’) is seen in His creation (Rom. 1:20 above). Through what He “spoke” into existence (“Then God said, ‘Let there be light,’ and there was light” Gen. 1:3) the Lord revealed His nature and character to all people of all time, leaving everyone without an excuse for denying Him.
Next, in the worlds of Hebrews 1:1-2a, “God, after He spoke long ago to the fathers in the prophets in many portions and in many ways, in these last days has spoken to us in His Son …” We can call this God’s INSPIRED WORD (or ‘Special Revelation’), because He breathed His message into His prophets and onto the pages of Scripture (compare 2 Tim. 3:16,17).
Thirdly, and most clearly, as mentioned in Heb. 1:2a, God spoke to us in His Son, referred to as God’s INCARNATE WORD (or ‘Personal Revelation’). This is what we are celebrating and proclaiming during Advent and at Christmas.
Finally, while the first three are astonishingly incomprehensible, God has chosen to speak to His children through His INDWELLING WORD as Christ Himself enters into each person who receives Him and believes in His name (John 1:12,13).
In the days and weeks of this Christmas season, whether you are experiencing overwhelming busyness and stress, or loneliness, disappointment and depression, please be reminded of Who God is. Contemplate all the ways our marvelous self-revealing Creator has spoken to you and for your benefit.
Remember that He made you – fearfully and wonderfully! Remember that He “so loved the world that He sent His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish, but have eternal life” (John 3:16).
Believe in Jesus. Receive Jesus. Be indwelt by Jesus. Follow Jesus. Be encouraged by Jesus. Celebrate Jesus this Christmas!
In His love,
Pastor Tim Sir
