Our Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood, in his bodily resurrection, in his Ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in the present evil world.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

About

“And they were continually devoting themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

 Acts 2:42

At First Congregational Church, we want to be “continually devoted” to the same activities that the New Testament Church has been practicing from the beginning.

If you are looking for a church home where you can grow spiritually in the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, worship in Spirit and Truth, enjoy the loving fellowship of other committed Christians, and express your God-given gifts, please consider First Congregational Church of Cresco.

Wherever God leads you, we invite you to join us whenever you can.

Romans 8:22,23 – For we know that the whole creation groans and suffers the pains of childbirth together until now. And not only this, but also we ourselves, having the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our body.

Dear Friends,

Years ago my wife Kim and I purchased a new car. There it was on the lot in all its shining glory! Much to our dismay, we hit a deer on the way home one night and crushed the front end. After picking up the broken parts and tossing them in the trunk, we were able to make our way home – our damaged vehicle flawed but somewhat functioning.

Similarly, God’s creation has been “wrecked.” It happened when Adam and Eve sinned and God pronounced a curse on everything (see verse 20 and Genesis 3:17-19). Flawed, but still functioning, the world is not as it was, and is not what it will be someday.

Our car spent several weeks in the body shop being restored to its “just off the assembly line” perfection. There it was again, displaying its intended beauty and accurately portraying the genius and skill of its maker.

Again, similarly, according to Romans 8:19-25, all of creation is anxiously longing, eagerly waiting, groan & suffering like a mother-to-be in the pains of childbirth, awaiting the Second advent of our Lord Jesus Christ. At that time, Christians will be given their glorified bodies, creation will be regenerated, all will be made new and fit for eternity!

This is God’s truth, this is our hope, and for this we eagerly wait with endurance.

Looking forward to serving Christ in 2022 with this mind-set,

For God’s glory,

Pastor Tim Sir
