Our Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood, in his bodily resurrection, in his Ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in the present evil world.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

“And they were continually devoting themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

 Acts 2:42

At First Congregational Church, we want to be “continually devoted” to the same activities that the New Testament Church has been practicing from the beginning.

If you are looking for a church home where you can grow spiritually in the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, worship in Spirit and Truth, enjoy the loving fellowship of other committed Christians, and express your God-given gifts, please consider First Congregational Church of Cresco.

Wherever God leads you, we invite you to join us whenever you can.

Jeremiah 23:1 – “Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of My pasture!” declares the Lord.

Dear Friends,

When a person reads, studies, preaches or hears the words of an Old Testament prophet, it is a challenge to rightly understand them in their original context, and apply them to our lives today.

As I have been working through the book of Jeremiah, I am striving to sort out how God’s Word to His people (Israel, Judah & Jerusalem) and the ‘Nations’ (Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, etc.) appropriately speaks to His people (the Church of Jesus Christ) and the ‘Nations’ (China, Russia, Israel, The United States, etc.) today.

Amid the current pandemonium of pandemic and politics, a few principles from the “Weeping Prophet” seem clear:

1) There is only one true God, the Lord, the God and Father of the Lord Jesus Christ, the God of the Christian Scriptures (the Bible).

2) Every person on earth has been created by the Lord, for the Lord, and is therefore accountable to the Lord.

3) All people and nations will be judged by God according to their obedience to His commandments.

4) The Lord has a specific purpose for each individual and nation and a special purpose for His Church as His chosen and representative people on the earth.

Friend, I strongly encourage you to seriously consider the message of God’s prophets. Seek to know the mind and will of God. Pray and ask Him for wisdom to discern the truth about the pandemic, politics and other problems of our day. Always ask yourself these questions: “What are the facts? What does God say about this in His Word? Do my sources of information derive their ideas from Him, or their own imaginations? Do I really want the truth?”

Our lives, present and in eternity, and the future of our nation, depend upon our relationship with God and response to His Word.

May God bless us richly,

As we follow Jesus closely,

Pastor Tim Sir
