Our Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood, in his bodily resurrection, in his Ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in the present evil world.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

“And they were continually devoting themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

 Acts 2:42

At First Congregational Church, we want to be “continually devoted” to the same activities that the New Testament Church has been practicing from the beginning.

If you are looking for a church home where you can grow spiritually in the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, worship in Spirit and Truth, enjoy the loving fellowship of other committed Christians, and express your God-given gifts, please consider First Congregational Church of Cresco.

Wherever God leads you, we invite you to join us whenever you can.

Proverbs 18:21 – The tongue has the power of life and death, and those who love it will eat its fruit.

Dear Friends,

Given the sheer power of our tongues, the tremendous weight of our words and the inordinate influence our speech exerts over other people, it is no wonder so much has been written on the subject. But before you rush to the bookstore or internet to purchase one of many helpful volumes, let me recommend another book – THE BOOK – spoken to us by our Creator.

If you develop a habit of routinely reading your Bible, you will be regularly reminded of the power of the tongue and importance of taming it. You will be challenged and convicted regarding its abuse, and instructed as to its proper use. If you have truly received Christ by trusting in Him for the forgiveness of your sins, His indwelling Holy Spirit will renew your mind, purify your heart and cultivate a love of using your tongue for His purposes (to praise God and edify others).

As this process continues, you will become more and more like Jesus and your words will produce more and more good fruit for you to eat and enjoy.

God created people in His image, and has given us the awesome ability to speak words – words capable of imparting life – or death – to others. Are you ready to allow Him to have His way in your life – and with your tongue? Re-read and seriously consider the words I have written above. I believe they are true, biblical – life. Also please read Matthew 12:33-37, Ephesians 4:29 and James 3:1-12.

Please join me in following more closely after Jesus as He purifies our hearts, tames our tongues, glorifies our Father in heaven, and blesses others!

In Jesus’ Name,

Pastor Tim Sir
