Our Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood, in his bodily resurrection, in his Ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in the present evil world.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

“And they were continually devoting themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

 Acts 2:42

At First Congregational Church, we want to be “continually devoted” to the same activities that the New Testament Church has been practicing from the beginning.

If you are looking for a church home where you can grow spiritually in the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, worship in Spirit and Truth, enjoy the loving fellowship of other committed Christians, and express your God-given gifts, please consider First Congregational Church of Cresco.

Wherever God leads you, we invite you to join us whenever you can.

“And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what the will of God is, that which is good and acceptable and perfect.” Romans 12:2

“Managing the Malware of Our Minds”

Dear Friends,

In our world of cyber-technology, ‘malware’ is becoming a familiar term. Short for ‘malicious software’, or harmful programs used by hackers to wreak destruction, malware is a dangerous enemy of our computers.

In the spiritual realm, the Apostle Paul says there is a far more insidious threat to our ability to relate rightly to God, others and the world around us. Created in His image, God has blessed human beings with the super-computers of our “minds.” With them, we can properly perceive reality and enjoy relationships.

However, our mortal enemy is a master-hacker who knows how to infect our minds with harmful ideas that destroy our perception of the truth. When we believe Satan’s lies, and act accordingly, we behave like people controlled by the ways of the world rather than by God.

Thanks be to our heavenly Father for showing us how to replace the malignant “malware of our minds” with the truth that will transform us into the image of Christ! We can have our minds renewed by the Holy Spirit working through His Word.

As this new year dawns and progresses, what will you do to make sure you are proactively engaged in the process of mental and spiritual renewal and transformation? What is your plan for regular ingestion and digestion of God’s Word?

I cannot encourage you too strongly to incorporate this spiritual discipline into your daily routine. This is God’s primary method of setting us free to be happy and fruitful followers of Jesus!

In His love, and for His glory,

Pastor Tim Sir
