Our Statement of Faith

We believe the Bible, consisting of the Old and New Testaments, to be the only inspired, inerrant, infallible, authoritative Word of God written.

We believe that there is one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

We believe in the deity of Christ, in his virgin birth, in his sinless life, in his miracles, in his vicarious and atoning death through his shed blood, in his bodily resurrection, in his Ascension to the right hand of the Father, and his personal return in power and glory.

We believe that for salvation of lost and sinful man regeneration by the Holy Spirit is absolutely essential.

We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit by Whose indwelling power and fullness the Christian is enabled to live a godly life in the present evil world.

We believe in the resurrection of both the saved and the lost; they that are saved unto the resurrection of life and they that are lost unto the resurrection of damnation.

We believe in the spiritual unity of all believers in Christ.

About

“And they were continually devoting themselves to the Apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer.”

 Acts 2:42

At First Congregational Church, we want to be “continually devoted” to the same activities that the New Testament Church has been practicing from the beginning.

If you are looking for a church home where you can grow spiritually in the teachings of Jesus and His Apostles, worship in Spirit and Truth, enjoy the loving fellowship of other committed Christians, and express your God-given gifts, please consider First Congregational Church of Cresco.

Wherever God leads you, we invite you to join us whenever you can.

Matthew 7:24, 25 – “Therefore everyone who hears these words of Mine, and acts upon them, may be compared to a wise man, who built his house upon the rock. And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and burst against that house; and yet it did not fall, for it had been founded upon the rock.”

Dear Friend,

“Life preaches!” I can still hear my seminary professor encouraging us to pay attention to what God is doing in our circumstances – especially the troubling ones.

Having embarked on a vacation to Charleston, South Carolina recently, our plans were altered by Hurricane Irma. While many people heeded the warnings and fled north, others stayed put, shoring up their properties in hopes of minimizing the damage. The effects of high winds, raging seas, and heavy rains varied according to the quality of a building’s construction and foundation.

Jesus teaches us that life is like that. Storms will come, causing rain, floods and wind to burst against our houses (lives). The effects of our trials will depend on the quality of our lives and the foundation upon which we have built them.

Notice that Jesus says it is not the “hearing” of His words that insures a solid foundation, but the “acting upon” (or literally “doing”) them. It is not merely knowing that we should love God supremely and others sacrificially, but it is actually loving God supremely and others sacrificially in the real, moment-by-moment situations we experience.

Are you a disciple of Jesus? Is it your goal to follow Him by learning to “do” what He says? Are you embracing the storms of your life, allowing God to “preach” to you through them, so that He can teach you how to act upon Jesus’ words?

Friend, this mind-set can make a dramatic difference in how you experience life’s troubling moments. Jesus will guide you step by step, granting you peace, hope, joy and a deep sense of ultimate meaning. The abundant life can be yours if you will trust in Christ alone and truly dedicate yourself to walk as His disciple.

May God bless you richly,

As you follow Jesus closely,

Pastor Tim Sir
